Evan's Christening

We got Evan baptized at St Michael's Church in Cranford, NJ on May 22nd, 2011. He looked like such a little man dressed up in his tuxedo:He did a great job during the baptism:Aunt Megan & Uncle Dave are Evan's Godparents:Grandma Janet made the trip down for the big day:And cousin Matthew was a big helper in holding Evan's hand while he walked around the room:

More pictures to come soon from that same weekend and cousin Morgan's visit.

1st Birthday Party

This post is long overdue! Evan's first birthday party was on Saturday, May 14th. We hosted a party at our house with our friends and their children. Evan was dressed in his "1st Birthday" outfit for the occasion:

Gram & Pops came down for the party as well:

Evan used to be afraid of balloons, but now he loves to play with them:Here is a picture of the cakes - the one on the left for all of the guests and the one on the right just for Evan to enjoy. After digging in for a few minutes: Evan also enjoyed feeding the cake to his mom:

All in all, we had a great time and Evan got lots of great gifts that we will get to enjoy in the coming year.

1 year old!

Evan turned 1 year old on Sunday, May 15th! We had a party on Saturday and I do need to post some photos from that, but this week has been a bit crazy so I hope I can get to it soon. In the meantime, here are a few of Evan's 1-yr-old pictures that we got taken on Sunday.

Baby steps . . .

Just like everything other milestone, Evan can go from o to 100 in a matter of minutes. For the last few days, we have tried to get Evan to use his push-walker . . . unsuccessfully. He usually collapses his knees when we stand him near it and just pushes it while crawling. Well, today I was cooking dinner and I turn around in the living room to see him pushing and walking. At 5:00 today while I was driving home, I was talking to my sister and telling her how Evan doesn't seem interested in the walker. And here were are at 7:00 PM outside:

Mother's Day

Happy Mother's Day! I've waited a long time to celebrate this day . . . 359 days exactly. Evan was born 6 days after Mother's Day last year. But, the picture above pretty much sums up how my son feels about me right now. (If it's not apparent, Evan is just starting to cry right when Brian clicked the picture.) Whenever he's in my arms, he cries and screams and reaches for his father. Happy Mother's Day to me! I realize he has no idea what he's doing, but I was in tears come dinner time. Brian went to the salad bar and Evan started crying and screaming hysterically when he left. He wants nothing to do with me and calmed down when his dad came back. I really hope he outgrows this soon because I'm not sure how much more I can take!

This morning, Brian surprised me in bed with homemade waffles and ice cream. Yum! And besides going out to dinner, we went to a small, local zoo. Many of the animals were in hiding so we didn't get to see as much as we'd hoped for. But Evan got to see some goats close up and called them "doggie" (which is pretty much any animal with 4 legs). Later on after dinner, we went to the dog park and he loved that more. But a stone wall near the zoo made for a great backdrop for some photos.

Father and son hanging out by the river:

Evan very much looks like the Weiss side of the family. Unfortunately, he got this "trait" from his mother - the tongue hanging out when he's relaxed or concentrating. It's something my own mother has nagged me about, my coworkers have laughed at me about, and Brian makes fun of on a daily basis. Poor kiddo :(

A little help from my friends . . .

I met these girls at a difficult time in my life, while struggling to get pregnant. We were all in the same situation and bonded immediately. We recently got together to visit the newest additions to our group:

Evan was the first to arrive, almost a year ahead of his friends. Next, Kristen (seated next to me) gave birth to a boy/girl twin set in February. Her little boy, Landon, is in her arms. And her little girl, Taylor, is on the far right of the picture. Andrea is sitting next to Kristen and she also just gave birth to boy/girl twins in early April. Her little boy, Aldo, is in her arms. And her little girl, Sophia, is right next to her in Carrie's arms. Carrie was getting lots of practice, which she will need as she has just begun her journey to adoption. We can't wait to celebrate her new baby whenever she gets the phone call, hopefully sooner rather than later!

Take me out to the ballgame . . .

While I was born and raised a Yankees fan, I am pretty sure I have no hope for Evan to follow in my footsteps. First, his dad will do everything in his power to make sure he hates the Yankees. And Evan will oblige because Brian is very obviously his favorite parent . . . at least right now :)

We took Evan to his first Phillies game of the season on Saturday, April 30th. The Phillies beat the Mets 2-1. He did really well and seemed to enjoy the sights, sounds and excitement. Here is a family photo with the Philadelphia skyline in the background.

This was not Evan's first game. Check him out last year, cheering on the Phillies after a home-run. He was 6 weeks old for his first Phillies game!
What a difference almost-a-year makes!
